Is There an Engineer Inside You?: A Comprehensive Guide to Career Decisions in Engineering

Welcome to my blog! This blog is about finding, educating, inspiring and recruiting students in engineering or other technical fields. The lessons learned can apply to any program in any technical field - I just have a bias toward engineering.

It's all over the news - students aren't interested in pursuing engineering. India, China and Japan are churning out engineers much faster than the US. Off shoring is a worry and a major turnoff. Professors say that students are lazy. Students say they didn't know what they were getting into. Guidance counselors say that only the best need to even consider engineering. Parents say "you better finish college if I'm paying for it". Where do we start?

Many groups are involved in increasing the pool of students that are interested in engineering careers. A significant problem is that we don't know about each other or about the curriculum, books, brochures, DVDs, posters, etc. that we have each created. We also don't know the success rate of each other's programs. Publicizing our work can be the drudgery of the job. We do this work because we love it and see the need for it. Not necessarily to publicize our findings.

Click on the link above or on a recent post below to get started.

Also, please encourage anyone that you know of that is doing pre-engineering recruiting or is involved in pre-engineering teaching, competitions, camps, women in engineering programs, diversity programs, eweek promoters to subscribe. The more people that collaborate on this blog, the more gains we all stand to make. Let's work as a community and reap the benefits.
