The directory lists camps that have been hosted by Universities and research centers in the past. Please note that all camps may not be offered every year and that new camps and programs are currently being added. Old or unsuccessful programs are always being eliminated or modified. A substantial number of programs specifically target minorities, women, and other groups traditionally underrepresented in the sciences. The programs offered change frequently, and this database is not comprehensive. This is only meant to be a guide to aid your search for engineering education preparation tools. Many of the programs offer scholarships and may have application deadlines as early as January. Camp GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math and Science) is an engineering, mathematics and science camp designed to develop interest, excitement and self-confidence in young women entering grades 7 and 8 in the fall. This 4-day long, residential camp features hands-on activities in math, science and engineering along with other activities such as swimming and tennis. The camp is design for the all-around student, not just those who excel academically. All sleeping, eating and instructional activities are located on the campus of Ohio Northern University located in Ada, OH.

WaterBotics
This is a weeklong day camp for middle school and high school students to experience building a robot using LEGO Mind Storms to perform challenges underwater. Attendees will learn how to use STEM related science, math, and technology in practical, challenging, and creative engineering situations. The institute is designed to allow young women to explore career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Each summer, the College of Engineering hosts a week-long workshop called Engineers in Motion for male and female students who have completed the 9th or 10th grade. The program introduces participants to fundamental skills that improve their chances for success in engineering courses and their future careers through hands-on activities. Engineering Summer Honors Institute
The Engineering Summer Institute is a week long, resident program primarily targeting gifted high school students (male and female) who have completed 10th grade (sophomore year of high school) and are interested in engineering. Eligible students are Ohio residents who have been designated as "gifted." This course will provide the Gifted Student the opportunity to be introduced to the fundamentals of engineering. While the focus will be on robotics, the course will introduce the student to the various engineering disciplines, the engineering design process, team-working skills, engineering drawing and communications, elements of problem solving with computers, simple programming elements and logic, and engineering professionalism and ethics.

Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day
The OSU Women in Engineering Program hosts Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day annually for girls in 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade who want to learn more about the fascinating world of engineering. The 2008 event will be held Saturday, April 19. Participants have fun learning about engineering by doing hands-on activities and will hear from engineering students and industry professionals about what you can do with an education in engineering. The Future Engineers Summer Camp, typically held the second week of August each summer, is a program designed for female students who will enter the 8th grade in the 2007-2008 academic year. This week-long program is held at The Ohio State University. Established to generate excitement and enthusiasm in engineering and science, participants will explore concepts of engineering and science. The program emphasizes exploring and experiencing rather than watching and listening.

Engineering Summer Academy
The Engineering Summer Academy is a three-week program at Ohio State for students who have completed their junior year, allowing them to receive college credit. During the program, the students (male and female) will design documentation and standards using manual and CADD/Inventor techniques. They will receive an introduction to 3-dimensional orthographic and pictorial visualization and presentation. The seventy-two hours of classroom and laboratory instruction will give the students credit for Engineering H191, equivalent to four quarter hours of undergraduate credit at Ohio State or for potential transfer credit at other institutions.

EE UA! camp at the University of Akron is an engaging one week residential summer camp for girls in the ninth through twelfth grades that immerses the girls into aerospace systems, biomedical, civil, chemical and biomolecular, electrical, mechanical, and mechanical polymer engineering. This camp will be held from June 13th through June 18th, 2010. Each day is comprised of fun-filled hands-on engineering activities in the morning led by our talented faculty, followed by dynamic tours of local engineering firms and then campus-wide activities in the evening. The students also spend the week working as a team, on a research project or design project and competing against other student teams at the end of the week. Students live in residence housing located on campus and can experience the life of a college student while exploring various engineering disciplines available at the University of Akron. Even the resident assistants are senior engineering students.
