Pre-Engineering Summer Camps!

The following camp directory lists some of the summer camps for K-12 students in engineering throughout the United States and Canada that are and were previously offered. The directory lists camps that have been hosted by Universities and research centers in the past. Please note that all camps may not be offered every year and that new camps and programs are currently being added. Old or unsuccessful programs are always being eliminated or modified. A substantial number of programs specifically target minorities, women, and other groups traditionally underrepresented in the sciences. The programs offered change frequently, and this database is not comprehensive. This is only meant to be a guide to aid your search for engineering education preparation tools. Many of the programs offer scholarships and may have application deadlines as early as January. If you are interested in a program, please email, call or write the organization listed for an application and the most current information available.

North Carolina State University
Engineering is Elementary!

Are you ready to take off this summer? The NC State College of Engineering will be offering a week-long summer day camp for elementary school students (rising 3rd through rising 5th). The camp will take place on the NC State Campus and will be led by elementary school teachers in partnership with engineering faculty from NC State. During the camp, students will be introduced to aspects of the fascinating world of engineering through application-based investigations like exploring chemical engineering through making lip balm and bubbles and testing consumer products, electrical/mechanical engineering by creating their own flashlights and competing in a "Junkyard Wars" type competition, civil engineering by designing kinetic sculptures and spaghetti bridges, general engineering by building things for competition like a double egg drop container, a cantilevered beam with balloons and straws, sailboats, and a device to "save Sponge Bob" from a river of hot lava.

Middle School Engineering Camp: Prime Time Engineering (rising 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th)

The NC State College of Engineering will be offering two week-long summer day camps for middle school students (rising 6th through rising 9th). The camp will take place on the NC State campus and will be led by middle school teachers in partnership with engineering faculty from NC State. During the camp, students will be introduced to aspects of the fascinating world of engineering through application-based investigations. Previous year s students investigated chemical engineering through making lip balm and bubbles and testing consumer products, electrical/mechanical engineering by creating their own flashlights and competing in a "Junkyard Wars" type competition, civil engineering by designing kinetic sculptures and spaghetti bridges, general engineering by bulding things for competition like a double egg drop container, a cantilevered beam with balloons and straws, sailboats, and a device to "save Sponge Bob" from a river of hot lava. Last year's curriculum was based on inspirations from TV's Survivor and CSI series.
