| The following camp directory lists some of the summer camps for K-12 students in engineering throughout the United States and Canada that are and were previously offered. The directory lists camps that have been hosted by Universities and research centers in the past. Please note that all camps may not be offered every year and that new camps and programs are currently being added. Old or unsuccessful programs are always being eliminated or modified. A substantial number of programs specifically target minorities, women, and other groups traditionally underrepresented in the sciences. The programs offered change frequently, and this database is not comprehensive. This is only meant to be a guide to aid your search for engineering education preparation tools. Many of the programs offer scholarships and may have application deadlines as early as January. If you are interested in a program, please email, call or write the organization listed for an application and the most current information available.

MITE
July 5 August 4, 2011
The Multiethnic Introduction To Engineering (MITE) program is being expanded this year to become a five week Academic Boot Camp for high schoolers heading into their senior year! We will have strong focus on Mathematics and college preparation and success strategies for students in attendance. MITE was initiated on the Purdue, West Lafayette campus as the Minority Introduction To Engineering Program in the summer of 1975. Participants in the MITE program are high school juniors identified through the College Entrance Examination Board and selected on the basis of their PSAT scores, high school grades, and expressed fields of interest. The majority of the participants in this program are residents of Indiana and surrounding states. This mix provides them with the unique opportunity to meet and interact with other students having similar interests and goals as they learn about engineering in the College of Engineering at Purdue University.

Seminar for Top Engineering Prospects (STEP)
Session 1: July 8-13, Session 2: July 15-20
STEP is a residential engineering camp for students who are heading into their senior year of high school. This seminar provides a dynamic opportunity to explore the many disciplines within engineering and the “jobs of a lifetime” for which engineering can prepare you. For a week, you will be on a team creating solutions to a multifaceted design challenge that will allow you to explore and discover the full potential of your imagination and creativity. It takes teamwork to bring creative ideas to life, so during your stay you will be involved in collaborative classroom experiences that will help you develop vital skills that you will need as an engineer. You will tour a number of departments within the College of Engineering to help you learn how as a future engineer, you can be involved with solving the complex grand challenges facing our global society. In addition, you will visit companies within the local area, so you can see first-hand engineering in action. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about college admissions and the Purdue College of Engineering Program. We also have fun activities that will allow you to become better acquainted with your fellow STEP participants as well as let you explore the Purdue campus. Ultimately, our goal is to give you a taste of what it is like to “be an engineer” as well as an informal experience of being an engineering student at Purdue. It’s a full and exciting week from Sunday afternoon through lunch on Friday!
